Umstieg von Win auf Ubuntu

Hallo,

ich habe das letzte mal vor ca. 5-6 Jahren ein Linux auf dem Rechner gehabt, damals ein openSuse. Ich hatte es auch nicht lange drauf,

da mein Notebook mein einziger Rechner war und ich ein paar Programme benötigte, die nur auf Windows (oder Apple) liefen.
Ich hab damals nach drei Tagen Recherche und mehreren Versuchen geschafft mein Modem zu installieren, hat auch Spaß gemacht - als es

endlich geklappt hat - aber eigentlich kenne ich mich kaum mit Linux aus.

Trotzdem will ich es mal wieder antesten, da ich immer noch fasziniert von dem Konzept bin. Und deswegen habe ich ein paar Fragen, die

ich vorher stellen will.

Frage 1: Wie ist es eigentlich heute so, speziell mit Ubuntu. Muss ich viel Hand anlegen, um alles lauffähig zu bekommen? Ich habe

leider nicht mehr so viel Zeit wie früher und darum wäre mir lieber, wenn ich ein System habe, dass läuft und sich womöglich noch von

selbst Updates aufspielt.

Frage 2: Ich hab momentan Windows installiert. Ich kann doch jetzt Linux (Ubuntu) einfach installieren und er macht das dann

automatisch parallel zu Windows oder?

Frage 3: Meine C:Partition habe ich extra auf 90 GB gemacht, damit ich für Linux auch Platz habe, das reicht doch hoffentlich. Bei Suse

hat er mir damals einfach meine Windows Partition verkleinert um sich installieren zu können. Das geht bei Ubuntu hoffentlich genauso

leicht.

Frage 4: Falls es mir dann doch nicht gefällt, kann ich es dann einfach deinstallieren und die Windows Partition wieder vergrößern?

(Ich glaube man muss den MBR neu draufspielen um den Bootloader zu entfernen oder)?

Frage 5: Falls es mir im Gegenteil so gut gefällt, dass ich Windows nicht mehr haben will, kann ich dann umgekehrt Windows einfach

deinstallieren und die Partition für Ubuntu nutzen?

Frage 6: Wie ist es mit Firewall und AntiViren Sofware? Auf Windows lasse ich extra eine AVM Firewall laufen und Antivir. Kann ich mich

auf die Linux eigene Firewall verlassen und kann ich auch einstellen, was ich blocke und was nicht? Welche Antiviren Software wäre

empfehlenswert - Freeware?

Frage 7: Hab gelesen, dass es unter Ubuntu "Natty" Hitzeprobleme gibt, könnt ihr das bestätigen?

Frage 8: Ist die Akkulaufzeit geringer als auf Windows? Falls ihr Windows installiert habt.
 
ja, ich hab auch extra nochmal im Software-Center nachgesehen, aber tp-smapi dkms ist installiert. Die tp-smapi source nicht, aber ich denke die brauche ich auch nicht oder?
 
tp-smapi-source ist keinesfalls nötig. Zeig mal bitte

das dmsg smapi ist irgendwie zu lang. Selbst im Vollbildmodus kann ich nicht alles kopieren. Gibt es da ein Trick oder reicht das?

dass bei dir da nichts kommt, ist normal, wenn tp_smapi nicht geladen ist, da grep die zeilen rausfilert, die in diesem falle die zeichenkette "smapi" enthalten. gibt es keine, wird auch nichts ausgegeben. wäre tp_smapi geladen, sähe es so in der art aus:

und nochwas: Ab Kernel 2.39 soll ja, wenn ich das richtig verstanden habe, der Bug oder die Einstellung drin sein, die zu höherem Stromverbrauch führt. Sollte ich dann - voraussichtlich im Oktober - eher nicht auf 11.10 updaten? Und kann man jetzt schon sagen wann das wieder gefixt sein wird?

Weißt du zufällig, ob es schon Fortschritte mit der unteren Ladeschwelle gibt?
Frag am besten mal im von mir verlinkten Thread nach.

Ab Kernel 2.39 soll ja, wenn ich das richtig verstanden habe, der Bug oder die Einstellung drin sein, die zu höherem Stromverbrauch führt. Sollte ich dann - voraussichtlich im Oktober - eher nicht auf 11.10 updaten? Und kann man jetzt schon sagen wann das wieder gefixt sein wird?
Der Stromverbrauch ist seit 2.6.38 kaputt. Wenn ich in die Zukunft schauen könnte, würde ich vermutlich nicht hier im Forum herumhängen ... ;)

Nicht ganz: Der Stromverbrauch ist seit 2.6.35 kaputt, mit 2.6.38 wurde er noch kaputter.

Den Fehler von 2.6.38 hat man gefunden, er lässt sich mit einem Kernelparameter beheben, welcher die PCIE Stromsparmodi forciert. (Allerdings tritt dieser Bug nicht bei allen Geräten auf, sondern nur bei solchen, die eben nicht 100% korrekt der ACPI Spezifikation folgen..)

(Vllt. wird er mit 3.0/3.1 gefixt, allerdings ist nicht so 100% klar wie man das machen soll, weil Linux macht alles richtig, nur das Bios übergibt falsche Angaben via DSDT Tabelle, Windows scheint das einfach zu übergehen oder andere Methoden zu haben.)

Den Fehler von 2.6.35 sucht man noch...

@Evilandi danke auch für deine Info. Das mit dem nicht gefundenen Fehler aus Kernel 2.35 lese ich jetzt zum ersten Mal. Dann hoffe ich ja, dass man da auch weiter kommt.

Von "Behebung" im Sinne einer ursächlichen, sauberen Lösung kann eigentlich keine Rede sein. ASPM global zu erzwingen ohne zu wissen, ob und wie die einzelnen Devices das unterstützen, ist bestenfalls eine "Holzhammermethode". Risiken und Nebenwirkungen inklusive. Auch fürs Runtime PM scheint die Linux-Treiberwelt nicht reif zu sein, wie ich gerade mit diesem neuen Feature in TLP erleben durfte. Ich denke, spätestens mit Kernel 3.13 wird dann alles schön ... ;) (sprich: man muß noch etwas Geduld haben)

ps. das force braucht man ab 2.6.39 weil die Kernelentwickler sicherheitshalber die Bremse angezogen haben.

heißt das, ich sollte dann lieber erst auf Kernel 2.39 updaten, wenn das behoben worden ist oder kann ich das ASPM beruhigt erzwingen, da es ja jetzt scheinbar auch ohne weiteres läuft?

Weder noch. Als Einsteiger solltest Du beim Standard-Ubuntu-Kernel bleiben und auf Einstellmöglichkeiten verzichten, die die Systemstabilität gefährden.

Wenn es vor 2.6.38 aktiv war, weil der Kernel nur auf ACPI Daten und nicht auf den Eintrag in der DSDT Tabelle geachtet hat und problemlos funktioniert hat, ist es keineswegs eine Holzhammermethode. Es ist einfach das gleiche Verhalten wie vorher...
(Natürlich sollte man solche Sachen als Einsteiger vllt. lassen...)

Nur weil es bei dir nicht auftritt und du keine Threads dazu findest heißt es ja nicht dass es nicht existiert ... Ich bemerke hier selbst mit 2.6.39 ohne force aspm keine großen Unterschiede ;)
