Nazi lyrics screened during Germany-Austria Euro 2008 match

A Swiss television channel has apologised after it mistakenly broadcast the
Nazi lyrics to the German national anthem during a Euro 2008 football match.

Broadcaster SRG offered subtitles
to Germany's national anthem during live coverage of Austria versus
Germany – but mistakenly included the "Deutschland, Deutschland über
alles" lyrics to the first verse, which have been ignored since the
fall of the Third Reich.
Fans were invited to sing along as the subtitles appeared on Swiss screens.
Managers at the channel blamed the mistake on researchers copying the wrong lyrics from the internet before the match began.

"It is beyond belief that anyone could fail to know that this would be
massively offensive to everyone who heard it," said one fan.
Executive Gion Linder, whose department provided the lyrics, said: "This was a
profound mistake and we know there is no excuse. But we deeply
apologise for it. I hope such a mistake never happens again."
Only the third verse of the German anthem is now sung to avoid promoting Nazi ideals under Germany's anti-fascist laws.

The first verse's lyrics read "Germany, Germany above everything, above everything in the world."
Germany proved it was above Austria – in matters of football at least – winning
the match in Vienna 1-0 and knocking the their Teutonic neighbours out
of the tournament.

Muß zugeben, das ich diesen Kontakt über das TV in Bezug auf Amerikaner hygienischer finde, ...
hatte schon seine Gründe, warum das damalige Europa die späteren "Amerikaner", die ihre Nationalität im wesentlichen aus einem erfolgreichen Genozid an Abermillionen Indianern beziehen, ausgespiehen hat. Aber welche "Amerikaner" meintest du eigentlich?- die Yankees?- oder eins der anderen Völker?- Wenn letzteres, nehme ich die "Völkermörder" natürlich zurück! :whistling:
