Inaktiver USB-Port 2.0

Hallo,

seit etwa 2 Monaten scheint sich der auf der Rückseite installierte USB 2.0-Port von meinem Thinkpad T420s verabschiedet zu haben. Ich habe mehrere USB-Sticks ausprobiert, die auf anderen Rechner funktionieren, aber bei meinem 2.0-Port nicht erkannt werden. Bevor ich die Lenovo-Garantie nutze (knapp zwei Jahre "neues" Gerät), interessiert mich, ob es vielleicht andere Möglichkeiten gibt, den Port wieder zum Leben zu erwecken.

Linux-Live-CD booten und schauen, ob der USB-Anschluss unter Linux funktioniert.
Wenn ja: Windows- (Treiber-) Problem.
Wenn nein: Hardwaredefekt.

Auch dann kann es nicht schaden, mit einem separaten System zu testen um auszuschliessen, daß das Problem auf Softwareseite liegt

Hat das T420s überhaupt USB3 in deiner Konfiguration?

Ist das hinten dann sicher ein 2.0-Port?

Solltest du kein USB3 haben:

sudo rmmod xhci

Dann Stick wieder rein, und nen Dmesg.

Ja, nach dem der USB-Stick in den Port gesteckt wurde. Ich habe zwei USB 2.0 und einen 3.0. Aktuell ist ein Notebookkühler angeschlossen (an USB 3.0), der ebf. über zwei eigene USB 2-Ports verfügt.

das modul für usb3 heißt übrigens xhci_hcd. xhci gibt es nicht.

laut dmesg wurde 31 und 95 sekunden nach dem start jeweils ein usb-gerät abgestöpselt/abgeschaltet. direkt im anschluss wurden 2 hubs mit je 2 ports gefunden, die am usb3.0-port zu hängen scheinen. 211 sekunden nach dem start verschwinden die beiden hubs und tauchen bei 229 sekunden wieder auf.

Hast du einen aktiven USB-Hub rumliegen? Eventuell hat es mit der Stromversorgung was, so könntest du zumindest das testen.

wenn der notebookkühler 2 usb anschlüsse für geräte hat, enthält er auch einen hub. oder meintest du, dass der kühler 2 anschlüsse zum laptop hat für die stromversorgung?
falls der kühler keinen hub enthält, kann es sich bei den hubs nur um die internen hubs handeln. wenn die verschwinden und wieder auftauchen, ist das kein gutes zeichen, sondern könnte auf einen hw-defekt hindeuten. vielleicht hat der kühler ja die usb-ports überlastet und beschädigt. wieviel strom zieht der kühler denn überhaupt?
bringt der überhaupt wirklich was? ich hab da so meine zweifel.

Danke für die Antwort. Der Notebookkühler hat zwei USB-Anschlüsse; über einen läuft die Stromversorgung, die aber -seltsamerweise mit dem für usb-sticks defekten Port des Thinkpads - funktioniert. Der andere USB-Port des Notebookkühlers reagiert aber auch nicht auf USB-Sticks. Den Kühler finde ich persönlich effizient: Leise und hält den Rechner auf ca. 40-45° C, was eine Verringerung um ca. 10-15% der Temperatur ohne Kühler entspricht. Wieviel Strom der Zalman-Kühler zieht kann ich nicht sagen. Das Problem mit dem USB-2.0-Port hatte ich schon vor dem Erwerb des Produktes.
