Find the COM port number of the Sierra Wireless card as follows:
b. Right Click My Computer and click Properties. This opens the “System Properties” window.
c. Select the Hardware tab in the “System Properties” window.
d. Click the Device Manager button in the hardware tab. This opens the “Device Manager” window.
e. Scroll down the list of devices and device categories to find the Ports (COM & LPT) category.
f. If there is a plus sign to the left of “Ports (COM & LPT)” click the plus sign to see the list of ports. This will show a list of ports below “Ports (COM & LPT)”.
g. If the card is installed correctly, there should be a port called: Sierra Wireless AT Command Port (UMTS)
h. To the right of Sierra Wireless AT Command Port (UMTS) it will show “COM” and a number. Remember this number and write it down to be used in the next step.
i. Close the “Device Manager” window (File->Exit)
j. Close the “System Properties” window (click X in top right of window)
Set up a hyper terminal to send commands to the WWAN card as follows:
k. Click Start and then Run…
l. Type “hypertrm” in the Open field of the “Run” window and click OK.
i. If a window appears asking to set HyperTerminal as the default telnet program. Click No.
m. Upon starting, the “Connection Description” window should appear. Type “Sierra Wireless Card AT Port” in the name field and select the icon with the red phone. Click OK
n. This opens the “Connect To” window. Towards the bottom of the window it will say “Connect using”. Click the drop down arrow to the right of “Connect using” and select the COM number that you wrote down in the previous step. Click OK
o. This opens the “COM Properties” window. Enter the following settings in this window:
i. Bits per second: 9600
ii. Data bits: 8
iii. Parity: None
iv. Stop bits: 1
v. Flow control: Hardware
p. Click OK
q. You will now be at the HyperTerminal window and should see a flashing cursor.
r. Type “AT” and press “Enter”
s. If the terminal responds with “OK” then the terminal is configured correctly.
i. If it did not, click File->New Connection to try configuring again.
t. Once configured correctly, click File->Save.
Unlock the WWAN card in HyperTerminal as follows:
u. Type AT+CLCK="PN",2
