T42: Upgrade von Ubuntu 10.04 auf Ubuntu 10.10 = kein WLAN (Atheros AR5212)

Seit dem upgrade von 10.04 auf 10.10 läuft kein WLAN auf dem Thinkpad T42 (2374-6G5):

Mit 10.04 lief es zwar, die Verbindung ist zwar ständig auch abgebrochen, aber es lief wenigstens so halb.

Das kompilieren wollte ich eigentlich vermeiden, aber es klappt trotzdem nicht.

Bei ifconfig gibts nun ath0 und wifi0, bei lshw -c network wird ath_pci als geladener Treiber angezeigt.
dhclient gibt aus:

und ath0 bekommt halt keine IP.

Was mich halt auch wundert ist, dass oben das Netzwerk-Management-Applet ein Ausrufezeichen anzeigt und beim darübergehen der Maus anzeigt: "Netzwerk deaktiviert", obwohl das Kupferinterface ja funktioniert (in /etc/network/interfaces sind eth0 und wlan0/ath0 nicht eingetragen).

PS: iwlist ath0 scanning listet jedoch bereits meinen WLAN-Router (WPA2 verschlüsselt) auf.

wenn Du mit der rechten Maustaste auf das Network Manager Applet klickst, ist dann der Haken bei "Enable Wireless" an?

Danke für die Antworten.

Ja natürlich habe ich wlan an. Ich verwende Ubuntu und das Notebook nicht erst seit heute.
Aber ich habe es anders gemacht: Ubuntu 10.10 frisch installiert und es funktioniert (bei der LiveCD war schon WLAN verfügbar) und zwar mit ath5k Treiber.
Zuerst hatte ich das Problem, dass nach der Frischinstallation und Verbinden mit dem WLAN + Starten des Firefox das Notebook gefreezed ist (Fehlermeldung: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Could_not_initialize_the_browser_security_component). Echt komischer bug. Auch mehrmaliges Neustarten führte zum freeze.
Ich habe dann das Firefox Profile im Homeverzeichnis gelöscht und nun klappt alles wunderbar. Die ständigen Updates von 7.04 (oder 7.10) auf 10.10 waren scheinbar doch irgendwann mal zuviel. Daheim läuft WLAN nun stabil, nun muss es nur noch auf der FH problemlos laufen. Vielleicht läuft die WLAN Verbindung dort auch nun längere Zeit stabil. Bin auch gleich auf ext4 umgestiegen.

Nachtrag: Ich wollte gerade VLC installieren (WLAN Verbindung bestand gerade nicht, VLC in synaptic gerade mal ausgewählt) und das Ubuntu 10.10 ist wieder abgeschmiert, sprich gefreezed. Das hatte ich mit 10.04 und früheren Versionen nie. Ist der Kernel 2.6.35 doch noch sehr instabil? Beim nächsten Neustart konnte ich es halb installieren (gefreezed bei vlc-plugin-pulse).

Nachtrag2: Ich habe nun Ubuntu 10.04.1 installiert und bisher keine Probleme. Es geht scheinbar bei Ubuntu wenig über LTS.
