Festplatte direkt in einer VM ansprechen...

Tach leute, habe folgendes Problem.

Mein alter FreeNAS-Server, basierend auf FreeBSD soll auf den LinuxServer (Ubuntu 9.10) umziehen.. und war in eine Virtuelle Maschine.

FreeNAS hab ich neu aufgesetzt auf einer virtuellen Disk, kein Thema. Nur... jetz stell ich fast das man iwie keine Festplatten mehr direkt einbinden kann. Aber ich hab 3 BSD-Formatierte und Verschlüsselte Festplatten, sowie ISCSI-Files usw... das alles umzuräumen ist ma a) zu aufwändig, b) bei 3Terrabyte Daten logistisch iwie ned machbar..... Weder unter VMware Server2 noch unter VirtualBox find ich möglichkeit zum direkt einbinden... aber ich weiß das das schon mal ging, ganz sicher unter VMware, bei VirtualBox weises nimmer.

Bin ich einfach nur zu doof inzwischen oder haben die des aus der Software entfernt?

Hoff jemand hat Rat ... oder alternativen

You can do what you want in VirtualBox.

In the VirtualBox User Manual go to section 9.9 as it will tell you how to access either the whole hard drive or just a partition of the hard drive.


9.9 Using a raw host hard disk from a guest
Starting with version 1.4, as an alternative to using virtual disk images (as described in
detail in chapter 5, Virtual storage, page 54), VirtualBox can also present either entire
physical hard disks or selected partitions thereof as virtual disks to virtual machines.
With VirtualBox, this type of access is called “raw hard disk access”; it allows a
guest operating system to access its virtual hard disk much more quickly than with
disk images, since data does not have to pass through two file systems (the one in the
guest and the one on the host).

unter dem gsx server ging das mal mit einbinden von block devices. die mecker aus der community über den wegfall seit server 2.0 sind aber schon vorbei. ich würds per iscsi lösen.

Unter Virtualbox funktioniert der RAW-Zugriff auf Festplatten (siehe Handbuch Abschnitt 9.10)

VBoxManage internalcommands createrawvmdk -filename /path/to/file.vmdk
-rawdisk /dev/sda
