X301 + Ubuntu 14.04 = Verbrauch zu hoch

Hallo,

Mit meiner frischen Ubuntu Installation erreiche ich, laut TLP, einen Verbrauch von 11W im idle und 13-15W beim surfen. Das ist eindeutig zu viel und die Akkulaufzeit ist entsprechend mager. Allerdings habe ich keine Ahnung woran es liegen könnte. Ich habe es genau so eingerichtet wie ich Ubuntu immer einrichte. Mein 14" 4:3 T61 mit der quasi selben Installation erreicht 8W im idle und etwa 10-11W beim surfen. Das kann ja wohl nicht sein. Hat einer eine idee wo ich bei der Problemsuche anfangen könnte?
 
Ich vermutet mal Dein Output von tlp-stat fällt unter ein Geheimhaltungsabkommen?

Mal abgesehen vom Verbrauch: Dein Akku scheint auch nicht mehr der beste zu sein. Der hat ja nur noch die Hälfte seiner ursprünglichen Kapazität.

Das Problem ist aber weniger der Akku, wenn der Verbrauch stimmen würde, könnte man aus dem trotzdem noch über 2,5h herausholen.
 
Ich habe das Problem nun gelöst indem ich das Mainbaord getauscht habe. Nun sind es 8W im idle und 10W beim surfen. Ist zwar immer noch etwas zu hoch aber auf jeden Fall besser als vorher.

Mit dem anderen Mainboard habe ich vor langer Zeit mal 8,5W im idle erreicht. Das war aber unter Windows 8. Ich dachte mir das es einen Versuch Wert war.

Um deine Werte einordnen zu können, miss doch bitte mal unter diesen Randbedingungen.

Habe ich mal gemacht, allerdings lief das Terminal im Hintergrund um schnell sudo tlp stat einzugeben.

Scheinen wohl doch 11W im idle zu sein. Allerdings komischerweise 9W average. Weiß nicht wie das gehen soll.

Es war auch nicht von mir gemeint, dass Du mit tlp-stat messen sollst. Das Terminal selbst tut nicht weh, aber sobald Du tlp-stat startest, geht der Momentanverbrauch sofort in die Höhe – bevor die Akkuwerte ausgelesen werden.

Empfehlung: wie im Wiki beschrieben mit Powertop oder thinkwatt messen.

Das schafft auch mein T61. Ich habe mal etwas geforscht und herausgefunden dass das X301 eigentlich sehr schlecht ist was den Verbrauch angeht. Da kann man wohl nicht mehr viel machen. Sehr enttäuschend, sogar ein altes 600E hat bessere Verbrauchswerte.

Was willst Du noch weniger?
Irgend was muß ja nun laufen.
Grafik, Chipsatz, Speicher, WLAN, Display.
Allein Grafik/Chipsatz im X301 sind mit 12W TDP spezifiziert. Im T61 sind Grafik/Chipsatz sparsamer, 8W TDP. Immerhin auch langsamer.
Noch weniger --> ausschalten.

TDP hat nichts mit Verbrauch zu tun, sondern mit der Wärmeabgabe. Natürlich bedeutet mehr Verbrauch auch mehr Wärme, aber das steht nicht 1:1 zueinander. Zumal die 12W bz.w 8W wahrscheinlich für den theoretischen Maximalwert stehen der bei leichter Last wohl kaum erreicht wird.

Ich bin mir jedenfalls recht sicher dass ein besserer Wert als 11-12W beim surfen erreicht werden kann.

Der ist doch bei Ubuntu 14.04.2 schon enthalten oder? Der Mainboardwechsel hat das Problem eigentlich gelöst, das X200 sollte nämlich noch einen Ticken sparsamer sein. Keine Ahnung was mit dem anderen Board los ist. Das hat aber auch schon unter Windows Probleme bereitet.

Klar, aber es wurde mit einem 14.04.1-Medium installiert (deine Ausgabe). Daher: alle Updates ziehen, macht daraus ein 14.04.2, jedoch bleibt der Kernel ein 3.13. Dazu siehe verlinktes Wiki.
 
Alle Updates habe ich bereits, aber den Kernelupgrade werde ich mal probieren.

Weil Ubuntu 14.04 und 14.04.1 mit Kernel 3.13 ausgeliefert wurden/werden und der Kernel ohne manuellen Eingriff (siehe Link von linrunner) nur Sicherheitsupdates bekommt, aber keinen Versionssprung mitmacht.

Um auf 3.16 zu kommen, muss man entweder von einem 14.04.2er Medium installieren oder, wenn man 14.04/14.04.1 installiert hat, folgende Befehle ausführen:

sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
sudo apt-get install --install-recommends linux-generic-lts-utopic xserver-xorg-lts-utopic libgl1-mesa-glx-lts-utopic libegl1-mesa-drivers-lts-utopic
Wenn es sich um einen headless-Server handelt, sieht die letzte Befehlszeile folgendermaßen aus:

Mit dem 3.16er scheint es ein wenig schlechter geworden zu sein:
