New features include Active Directory-based customization and policy support, improved ease of use, command line interface, and custom repository support. These new features are complemented with two administrative tools, Package Builder and Update Retriever.
Package Builder is used to modify and create custom install update packages compatible with System Update.
Update Retriever is used to create and manage a customer's local repository. It is also used to import packages created using Package Builder and to retrieve Lenovo packages from the Lenovo support site.

Interessant finde ich beim Vergleich der beiden Programme, dass mir Systemupdate mehr Software zum Update anbietet, als der Softwareinstaller. Letzterer zeigt nur noch CSS7 an, wobei Systemupdate bei mir noch eine (riesengroße) neuere Variante von R&R, Hotkey-Krimskrams und Thinkpadtastaturbelegung dazu anzeigt...
Laut IBM Hotline ist System Update das aktuellere, welches von Lenovo gepflegt wird. Software Installer ist das ältere, was nicht mehr so auf dem Laufenden gehalten wird. Habe die beiden eben mal verglichen. System Update hat bei mir auch mehr gefunden!
