Did anybody succeed in running Linux on a Thinkpad Tablet 10? I'm considering to buy one of the new series (V2, Atom x7-Z8700).

How easy or difficult is it to boot Linux at all? Will the bootloader allow other operating systems than Win 10?
How is the support for a pen device?
Does auto-rotate based on the gyrometer work?

At this point, I'm not concerned about version 1 or 2. As far as I understood it, V2 has an updated CPU but more or less the same periphery. So if things work on on the old one, I would expect them to work on the newer version also. Hope, this is not too optimistic.

I would be most curious about Ubuntu although any experience with any other Linux flavor would also be appreciated.

PS: I'm running Ubuntu on a daily basis on several machines and I'm not scared of compiling a kernel or editing a few lines in the source code. My question is more about, how much effort is required to get it to run.

Have a look at the BQ Aquaris M10 Ubuntu Edition. Since Ubuntu is running nativly on this device the chances of meeting your requirements are higher then with flashing Linux on a Thinkpad Tablet.

I suspect the problem of the older baytrail atom CPUs persists for cherry trail. There has been some progress recently, but it's a but of a painful experience (basics seem to work now, but many peripherals have problems, notably sound or brightness control as well as general power saving mechanisms). Possibly the cherry trails are a bit better in that respect, but haven't found any positive reports of that sort yet -would be very interested in hearing about them though!
