T480/s T480 - magnesium lid | topic in english

Hi,

sorry to write in English language, but my German is really rusty I hope it is OK, and greetings from Slovenia.

my T480 has already received intel ax200 wifi card and new 72mwh battery (it also has internal). Since it has shitty IPS panel, I have ordered Innolux IPS panel in Europe - here: https://www.xelent-store.de/Innolux-N140HCG-GQ2-400cd-Low-Power-Display-72-NTSC

And why stop with the upgrades now?

Next plan is to get trackpad from x1e, of course aliexpress.

But now I have questions regarding magnesium lid:

I am looking at this part here (lid), but after reading on https://www.xyte.ch/mods/t25-frankenpad/ - i would also need different bezels?

I am confused, because a guy on thinkpad forum wrote:

-T490 LCD (01YN155)
-T480 magnesium lid (01AX955)
-T480 bezel, magnesium lid type, w/ ir cutouts (01YR491)
-IR camera array (01HW022)

So - if I buy magnesium lid, do I need to buy bezel - and which one, internal or external bezel? Or will magnesium lid fit directly? And i would just need to upgrade bezel if i want to ad ir camera (now i just have thinkshutter)? A little bit confused here.

Hi and welcome.
I can't tell you much about the fitment of the magnesium lid, but the display bezel is a different thing:
the two parts of the bezel do not seem to be interchangeable between IR and non-IR variants since there is an additional cutout for the IR variant.
Since you want to switch your camera to the IR model, it seems you need to replace both parts of the bezel. The outer part of the bezel is merely a sticker anyway.
If the bezel sticker is made of similar material as in older applications (T440 etc had similar stick-on bezels), it can't really be reused anyway.
This is because the adhesive is usually damaged upon removal.

Thank you all for your answers. Was not sure if i change the lid, i automatically need to also change the bezels (if i would change the bezels, i would do them for the IR cam). Going to think about it, since display upgrade for now will do the job (i also just received x1 nano g1, and i have x270 and thinkstation p510). So many toys ...

Yesterday I changed the screen to Innolux, best decision ever. Process was smooth, I only had some problems with bezels and glue.

Yes, screen is really good. Would reccomend. I did not buy it from Aliexpress (like majority of things), but from european distributer, it costed me 90 EUR + 14 EUR with shipping. Screen is really bright (400 nits), must do upgrade.
