T420 + Ubuntu + Java = Überhitzung

Hallo Gemeinde,

ich habe mir vor kurzem Minecraft gekauft und musste nun feststellen das ich damit meine T420 über kurz oder lang in den Hitzetod treibe - Resultat: 90 Grad nach nur ein paar Minuten spielen. Anfangs hat mich das doch stark gewundert, Spiele wie Diablo 3 oder Oblivion habe ich über PlayonLinux installiert und kam dabei selten über 60 Grad raus, Minecraft schaffts innerhalb kürzester Zeit das System auf 90 Grad und mehr zu bringen. Nach kurzer Recherche bin ich nun soweit, dass ich als Übeltäter Java - was extrem ressourcenfressend sein soll - vermute. Ich hab aktuell OpenJDK 6 und 7 installiert und es auch mit beiden Versionen versucht, allerdings ohne Besserung. Da das Spiel über den HD3000 nicht spielen kann, bin ich fast gezwungen mit optirun auf den NVS zu setzen. In einem weiteren Versuch habe ich versucht dem Spiel mehr RAM zuzuweisen - ebenfalls ohne Erfolg. Auch unter der Grafikeinstellungen im Spiel ändern nichts an dem Hitzeproblem.

Hat irgendjemand eine Idee was man da unternehmen könnte?

P.S: Thinkfan ist installiert, das System ist ein i7 mit 2,7 ghz, 16gb Ram, 128 gb SSD und Ubuntu 12.04.
 
Schau erstmal was genau Amok laueft.

Java, bzw Minecraft, braucht schon mal 100% CPU-last, da bleibt es nicht aus das das Dingen extrem warm wird.

Starte mal, wenn Minecraft laeuft, top bzw htop und schau welche Prozesse 100% haben.

Zudem finde ich 90C zwar recht warm aber es ist noch nicht kritisch. Erst ab 100-105C wirds kritisch.

bei nem core i5/i7 sind 90° und mehr unter last völlig normal. wenn dann auch noch die nvidia-grafik mitheizt, erst recht. mein core2 duo im t400s wird unter last schon sehr warm, wenn dann auch noch die automatische übertaktung durch den turbo boost hinzukommt, sind 90° nicht verwunderlich.

spiele nehmen sich üblicherweise alles, was sie an rechenzeit bekommen können, egal obs der neueste ego-shooter ist oder ein altes spiel. das wird bei minecraft nicht anders sein.
 
Erreicht die CPU 90° oder die GPU?

Ansonsten probiere mal das ganze mit der Oracle JDK.
 
Minecraft nutzt nur einen Kern. Das macht die ganze Geschichte komischerweise viel heißer als die selben Berechnungen verteilt auf mehrere Kerne. oO Mein W520 wird auch immer ziemlich laut..
 
Mal anders: Du siehst die Temperatur auf dem Niveau, ok, aber hast du irgendein Problem in dem Moment ?

@hibbelharry: nein, es gibt absolut kein problem. das einzige problem ist das mich instinktiv die temperatur etwas verunsichert war.
@cobelius: die cpu erreicht 90 grad und mehr, die gpu macht eigentlich keine probleme.

was mir aber aufgefallen ist: wenn ich im akkubetrieb spiele bleibt die kiste um knapp 10 grad kühler - offensichtlich wegen unterschiedlichen taktungen. ich hab mir diesbezüglich einige scripts angeschaut und damit rumprobiert. wenn ich governor per script dauerhaft auf powersave setze dann habe ich im netzteilbetrieb den selben effekt wie im akkubetrieb. ist für mich persönlich aber keine echte lösung da es doch recht umständlich ist. gibts da irgendwelche ideen zu?
 
Powersave-Governor ist doch Vollkäse. Man könnte versuchen den Turboboost abzuschalten. Du brauchst auch keine Skripte, da ich annehme dass Du schon TLP drauf hast.

EDITH sagt, Du hast Nvidia Optimus. Wie ist deine Treiber-Konfiguration? Hast Du etwas im BIOS umgestellt?
