X3xx (X300, 301) Ist es möglich, eine sekundäre SSD auf einem x301 setzen? [mit English]

Hello, I have an X301 which mounts already a SSD drive as stock.
I would like to know if there's a way to put also a secondary SSD drive in it, maybe in the DVD-RW/secondary battery slot space, if exist an adapter that may allow this!

Ob es einen Ultra-Bay Adapter gibt für das X301 sollte im HMM (Hardware Maintainance Manual) stehen.

Considering the data rates of USB, this won't be much fun

How is the DVD drive connected in the x301?
If it is SATA it should be easy to connect a SSD (slim one or without housing)
If it is IDE an additional adapter is needed or an ide SSD...
But in both case you have to build your own OptionBay Adapter...

I will make you a pic of the connector on the back of the dvd drive, and we will see if its possible to maybe study a way to build this "home-made" sata/ssd adapter fur dein x301 series!

It seems that the optical drive is connected via a Sata to IDE Bridge, so the drive has IDE...

In this case if you want to connect a Sata SSD, you will need an adapter/bridge (IDE to SATA) and some appropriate connectors...
Or you could directly connect to the SATA lines on the mainboard (someone did this with the X40).

Other question: Why do you need a second SSD? If the first is to small why dont replace it?

ehm.... the SSD inside my x301s is the stock 128 GB.... but i find it too little now for my actual needs.
and 256 GB ones cost too much still, for my buget
and the major problem is that I can ONLY put 1.8" hard drives inside its place... so increasing the size would be only too expencive!

While I thought that maybe if I could recover the optibay slot space somehow, I could even put standard sata drives to expand the space needs..... but it seems kinda hard, this project...
if chineses did not even try to release a compatible adapter for the x301 optibay, there must be a reason :/

So I have to think about what to do...

Did you make the pic of the connector of the dvd drive? If it is common, it shouldnt be to hard to make an adapter, otherwise you have to sacrifie an x301 optical disk drive... (perhaps there are some defect ones?)

IDE socket, as you already wrote before!
SATA to IDE convertor interface needed .... that means, limitations on speed, and many other problems.... obviosuly not worth the hassle, that's why no one ever did this...

USB external drive. Only and solely option to expand internal drive capabilities, without changing it completely.
