X21 Bios USB bootfähig?

Moin zusammen,

ich spiele mit dem Gedanken ein gebrauchtes X21 zu kaufen. Problem ist noch das fehlende CD Rom Laufwerk für Installationen und Bootfunktion für z.B. Acronis Imagewiederherstellung.

Mit Port Replikator oder Docking Station sicher kein Problem, nur nutzen mir die nichts im Auto (wollte ich auch nicht extra kaufen oder mitschleppen). Ein externes CD Rom gäbe es für kleines Geld, eine externe USB Hdd hätte ich.

Wie sieht es mit externen USB Laufwerken oder USB Hdd aus, funktioniert das mit den Angaben die ich gefunden habe:

Version 1.0 (or higher)".

be used with an IBM External USB Diskette Drive when the
system is booted from the USB Diskette Drive by PC-DOS.
NOTE:
To support this function, get an additional package,
"IBM USB Portable CD-ROM Drive (33L5151) Driver for DOS
Version 1.0 (or higher)" at the same time, and install it
with the PC-DOS diskette.

Hallo,
hatte mal ein X20 das definitiv nicht bootfähig war. Ich meine ab dem X21 waren Sie bootfähig, dazu aber einfach nochmal die Suche wälzen, da gabs garantiert einen Thread zu.

Mein X20 ist sehr wählerisch. Funktioniert hat es mit einem TEAC CD-210PU CD-ROM-Laufwerk. Drei andere, die ich bisher an das X20 angeschlossen habe, konnten nicht damit booten.

Hallo,

selbst mein X22 ist wählerisch. Von USB-Stick und -Floppy kann ich booten, von einem (bootfähigen) USB-CD gehts nicht.

Wenn Du auf Nummer sicher gehen willst, dann besorg Dir eine X2 Ultrabase, oder USB-CD von IBM (wobei es auch hier nicht funktionieren kann)

IBM beschreibts im CD Rom Manual:

Installation Instructions -------------------------
1. Make a DOS boot diskette.
2. Copy the USB_CD.SYS file to the DOS boot diskette.
3. Copy the MSCDEX.EXE file from your operating system directory to the DOS boot diskette.
4. Add the following statement to the config.sys file on the DOS boot diskette: DEVICE=USB_CD.SYS
5. Add the following statement to the autoexec.bat on the DOS boot diskette: MSCDEX.EXE /D:TEAC-CDI
6. Boot to DOS using this DOS boot diskette to use USB Portable CD-ROM Drive.

Geht anscheinend nur über den Umweg mit Floppy, mal sehen ob ich noch irgendwo ein altes Drive Image auf Disketten rumfliegen hab. Back to the roots ;-)

also ich kann bei meinem X20 mit dem Teil von einer CD und DVD mit einem stinknormalen 5,25" DVD-Brenner booten. Ohne Probleme!
