Minimum system requirements

Rockstor is a complete Linux distribution (iso) to be installed directly on hardware or as a VM with the following minimum system requirements and recommendations.

64-bit Intel or AMD processor (2+ cores recommended).

2GB RAM (4GB+ recommended).

8GB drive for Rockstor; if USB key use only fast variants (16GB+ SSD recommended).

One or more additional drives for data use only (less than 1GB ignored, 5GB+ recommended).

Ethernet interface (with internet access for updates).

All drives must have unique serial numbers (real drives do); not all VM * systems default to this.

A UPS (recommended) that is supported by NUT.

USB port and 1GB+ USB key for the installation media; or DVD drive and a blank DVD.

Während andere NAS-Betriebssysteme wie etwa FreeNAS auf das Dateisystem ZFS setzen, verwendet Rockstor den Konkurrenten Btrfs. Er bietet einen ähnlichen Funktionsumfang wie ZFS, steht aber unter der GNU General Public License (GPL) und löst in der Linux-Welt sukzessive das Ext4-Dateisystem ab. Rockstor nutzt die Fähigkeiten von Btrfs für seine Zwecke. So komprimiert das NAS auf Wunsch im Hintergrund automatisch alle Daten. Dank des flexiblen Volume-Managements lassen sich nachträglich eingebaute Festplatten schnell einbinden.

Oh:

Wer Rockstor im produktiven Einsatz betreiben möchte, muss sich allerdings den Zugang zu den Updates erkaufen.

Die Subscription kann man auch in Hardware investieren und nimmt dann FreeNAS.

Hat einer Erfahrungen damit?

Es liegt so zwischen FreeNAS und OpenMediaVault, jedenfalls von mir gefühlt.

Mir erschließt sich (wieder mal) der Sinn von so was nicht. FreeBSD mit ZFS ist in ein paar Minuten aufgesetzt, Zugriff über SSH und fertig.
