Hallo Joker,

Peter

Perfekt für's neue Frankenpad. :)

Gentlemen, do you happen to know if the boards you're using are doing everything possible to avoid flicker like xiphmont's old boards? Would have been nice to drive HV150UX2-100 like that..
AliExpress got some kits here (and here) but probably it would be too much to expect they use such a high frequency as xiphmont's boards?
I also got myself this 42W8082 but it will probably end up being useless..

Chinese kits have FancyBoost circuits, which are not so hard to modify for high freq PWM mod.

However, the HV150UX2 cannot be used that way, as the electronics for supplying the LED are integrated on the display itself. Only four connections are supplied from mainboard to display on 14 pin connector: VCC / GND / BL_ON / DIM.

Suppose we connected

- LED VCC/GND on HV150UX2 to main outputs from a FancyBoost board
- BL_ON/DIM on HV150UX2 to GND or BL_ON signal somewhere on FancyBoost board

shouldn't it work? HV150UX2 backlight circuit is completely independent

There is no need for additional FancyBoost board, signals to CN2 are coming directly from motherboard over display cable and inverter channels.
I do not have any flickering on my HV150UX2, therefore I wouldn't do it more complicated as it is.

..so are you getting "inverters" to which these old instructions are still applicable? Which in xiphmont's times had only 6:1 or 5.5:1 dimming range? If the dimming range was better I would be pleading with you to disclose your supplier!

All the boards I can find myself appear completely identical to good old Unboosty-blue which according to xiphmont "can flicker noticably with the slightest shift in input voltage, eg with processor load"

See photo, that's the drivers coming from China.

1-1 like the one in xiphmont's post :) ..so is the dimming range somewhat limited then? or did they manage to improve on it?

Dimming range is still limited, indeed. But compared to anything CCFL-like it is so much better that one should be able to live with that small disadvantage. Only If you are using a modified display in the dark there is the problem that the background lighting is too bright. Same problem I have with my 24in desktop display from HP by factory default...
On the other hand the modified display can be used outside during the day, which is almost impossible with factory CCFL.

Hallo Joker4791, hallo Forum,

Was soll ich sagen?
