T440p neuer Lüfter für T440p ab Werk ## FRU# 00HM902 and 00HM903.

Hallo,

ab wann werden die T440p mit dem neuen Lüfter ab Werk ausgestattet? Hat jemand Erfahrung bzw. weiter Informationen?
Sind die neuen Lüfter jetzt evlt. schon ab Werk verbaut?

All,

I want to be careful not to create an impression that all existing T440p fans are going to be noisy.

As current service (fru) stock could be mixed (some fans might be noiser than exepected) I've advised people to hold off contacting service until we have new fans in. We've released new part numbers to help address the stock situation.

New fans will be FRU# 00HM902 and 00HM903.
(one part number is for integrated graphics, the other for optimus models)

The parts are on order, and we are working with our supplier to accelerate them into stock.

I appreciate your patience - I'll keep checking every couple days on this.

New fans look like they could be in stock by mid April - I'm continuing to check on the progress every week.
I'll advise once the new p/ns are confirmed in stock.

In terms of RPM, yes history repeats sometimes. We can have a look at this, but there are typically some reasons why the starting RPM is set where it is to decrease / delay abrupt fan speed changes and to maximize the longevity of the fan. There are always trade offs.

I think most of the noise issues were mechanical on this, so once we get past those, if we find that the running acoustics, tied to fan RPM are really a consensus issue we can talk ask engineering to revisit that.

Im Ersatzteilsystem von IBM ist das neue Teil (zumindest Shared Grafik 00HM902) schon verfügbar:

ich könnte mir vorstellen das für neue Geräte schon die neuen Teile verwendet werden. Sind ja zum Großteil Built to Order und
große Lagerkapazitäten sind ja in der Industrie sowieso verpöhnt?!

Hast Du ebenfalls Probleme mit dem Lüfter und bereits beim Support wegen des neuen Lüfters angefragt?

Ich für meinen Teil werde dass höchstwahrscheinlich erst in Anspruch nehmen, wenn ich mal was anderes am T440P habe, was gemacht werden muss, da ich relativ gut mit der Läustärke leben kann. Auch weiß ich nicht, ob dass bei meinem Modell jetzt so einen großen Unterschied macht, da ich anscheinend nicht einen ganz extremen "Brummlüfter" habe.

Die 04X1854 ist die FRU von dem Thermal Modul mit Rappel-Lüfter der heute Gottseidank bei mir getauscht wurde!

was wurde beim ## FRU# 00HM903 gegenüber ## FRU# 04X1854 (alte Version) geändert, hat da jemand ein Bild?
Beide Lüfter sind für die Version vom Thinkpad T440p mit Nvidia Optimus Grafik.

So, Techniker war eben da und hat den neuen Lüfter eingebaut!
Es ist tatsächlich ein 00HM903 und er ist bedeutend ruhiger! Ich würde behaupten, es deckt sich mit der Aussage von mich@el: dass Surren ist noch da, aber wesentlich leiser. Ich denke, damit kann ich gut leben! Je höher der Lüfter dreht, desto krasser erscheint der Unterschied der Verbesserung zum Vorgängermodell, aber auch in den unteren Drehzahlbereichen ist das Surren dezenter und weniger auffallend.


Zusammenfassend:
die Dame aus dem Erstgespräch wusste nichts von dem Noisy-Fan-Problem, hat aber das richtige Ersatzteil bestellt, nachdem explizit auf die neue FRU hingewiesen wurde!
Sie konnte mir allerdings nicht sagen, ob diese verfügbar ist und ich hatte sie auch zwischenzeitlich nie mehr erreichen können. Sämliche andere Mitarbeiter an der lenovo-Hotline konnten angeblich nicht einsehen, ob die richtige FRU bestellt wurde. Es gab nur die Information, dass das Ersatzteil im Ausland bestellt werden müsse und der Techniker sich dann meldet, wenn es da ist.
Es scheint also anzurollen. Der Techniker kannte das Problem.

Leider nein, habe diesen nur kurz von der Unterseite gesehen, bevor der Techniker ihn eingebaut hat.
Daher kann ich leider keine konkrete Aussage machen.
Ich bilde mir ein, dass das Teil identisch aussah. Auch bei dem Lüfter selbst ist mir keine drastische Veränderung aufgefallen.

Fan cycling on and off is not really the issue that was being corrected. If there is abnormal fan operation, I would update the BIOS and power manager drivers.

The embedded controller (EC) is updated along with BIOS and just re-writting the values can sometimes fix fan behaviors. I would also check the heatsink for dust build up - this could cause the fan to run at higher speeds and more frequently, as cooling is impaired. The dust build up would be on the inside of the heat sink fins where the fan blows against them. So, with the system off, blowing canned air into the vents can clean out some of this dust.

The noisy problem was more a fan assembly issue and only affected some of the fans. We made a change with the supplier and introduced the new part numbers to ensure consistency.

Yes, to answer an earlier question, the new parts have been used in manufacturing for some weeks now.
